Outside of my research, I don’t really do much writing (though I used to write bad poetry when I was a teenager, including a desperately awful poem about ‘Africa’, written literally before even setting foot on the continent, when I flew to Zimbabwe for my year out). These days I prefer taking pictures. I also much prefer reading what Lu writes about our travels to having to do any of the writing myself. So I’m not going to write much on our blog, just the occasional update and observation. But I would like to share some of my pictures, and not just in the format they come in on my photography website, or the galleries for our alphabet letters, which I’ll post on the front page. Intentionally or otherwise, themes usually emerge as you’re travelling around, the same things catch your eye, and a body of comparable images forms. So I’m going to put together photo essays on some of these themes. Some will be one-offs, some I’ll keep adding to as we go along, and as more opportunities present themselves. I’ll stay light on the text, and present the pictures as a slideshow. I’ll also include links to the galleries, so you can see them non-sequentially if you like.
You can reach the different pages by hovering over ‘Photo Essays’ above, or from these links:
